Salé police deny claims of fatal attack against Senegalese national
Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has firmly denied reports circulating on some Senegalese websites and social media platforms alleging that a Senegalese national was fatally stabbed in Salé following the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025).
In an official statement, the DGSN said that security services launched thorough investigations after the spread of these claims. The inquiries found no record of a deliberate homicide or an assault resulting in the death of a Senegalese citizen matching the details described in the online reports.
According to the same source, the only confirmed case involves the discovery of an unidentified body of a sub-Saharan African individual in the city of Salé. Authorities noted that the body emitted a strong smell of alcohol and showed no visible signs of violence or resistance, except for minor bite marks.
Preliminary observations suggest that these marks were likely caused by stray dogs in the area where the body was found, rather than by any criminal act.
Judicial investigations were immediately opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to establish the identity of the deceased. Fingerprints collected at the scene have not matched any records in the national forensic police database so far.
The DGSN also stated that coordination is ongoing with Interpol and Senegalese security authorities to assist in identifying the individual. In parallel, investigations were conducted into the identity of a person whose documents were shared online and presented as the alleged victim due to physical resemblance.
Checks revealed that the individual in question is a Senegalese citizen holding a Moroccan residence permit, but field investigations showed that he does not live at the declared address. Further technical examinations are therefore continuing.
The DGSN reiterated that no evidence of murder or fatal assault has been established at this stage. The case remains under judicial investigation, and the body has been referred for a medical autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
