The appeal comes shortly after France’s Foreign Minister reiterated the country’s "traditional" support for Morocco during a visit to Rabat.

French Members of Parliament Aurelien Pradie and Pierre-Henri Dumont have urged France to adopt a clear stance on the Sahara dispute.

Representatives from the Republican Party, the deputies emphasized the significance of the Sahara question for Morocco, labeling the country’s sovereignty over its southern provinces as "crucial."

"Therefore, I urge my country to adopt a clear stance... that the Sahara belongs to Morocco and should be under its complete sovereignty," Pradie stated.

Pradie also referenced His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s speeches, underlining the Sahara dossier's importance for Morocco as a "fundamental and existential matter."

"We must eliminate ambiguity. France needs to take a clear stance. I understand there are steps to be taken, and I am committed to taking them," he expressed, highlighting the purpose of his visit to Rabat for bilateral discussions.

Dumont echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the enduring and strategically significant friendship between France and Morocco.

"This visit, which is not tied to any electoral deadlines, aims to reaffirm our commitment to the friendship between our nations and leaders," the MP remarked.

His visit followed shortly after French Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Sejourne's inaugural visit to Morocco.

During his visit, Sejourne underscored the importance of maintaining robust bilateral relations with Morocco and urged progress in resolving bilateral tensions.

The top French diplomat reiterated his country’s traditional support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, acknowledging that France acknowledges the Sahara dossier's existential significance for Morocco.

However, political observers had anticipated France to follow the examples of Spain and the US in supporting Morocco’s Autonomy initiative as a credible basis for resolving the Sahara dispute, rather than maintaining ambiguity on the matter.
