Russia warns US nuclear strike on Iran would be catastrophic
Russia has issued a stark warning against any potential use of tactical nuclear weapons by the United States in Iran, describing such a move as disastrous. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on recent speculation surrounding this possibility, labeling it as deeply concerning.
Peskov's remarks came in response to reports suggesting that conventional weapons alone might not be sufficient to destroy Iran's heavily fortified underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordow. According to the reports, U.S. defense officials were informed that a combination of conventional strikes followed by a tactical nuclear bomb might be needed to eliminate the site.
Despite these discussions, it was noted that former President Donald Trump had not considered the nuclear option. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, did not recommend such an approach during internal meetings at the White House.
Trump recently stated that a decision regarding possible U.S. involvement in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran would be made within the next two weeks.
