RS Berkane secures third CAF Confederation Cup title and $2 million prize
RS Berkane is poised to receive a substantial financial reward following their triumph in the CAF Confederation Cup, having achieved a notable 3–1 aggregate victory over Tanzania's Simba SC. This achievement marks Berkane's third title in this prestigious tournament, further solidifying their reputation in African football.
The decisive match culminated in a 1–1 draw during the second leg held in Zanzibar, allowing Berkane to secure the crown after establishing a two-goal lead in the first leg. As a result of their victory, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that Berkane will receive $2 million in prize money, while Simba, the runners-up, will take home $1 million.
CAF has acknowledged Berkane's rising prominence on the continent, stating, "Five finals in six years. Three titles – 2020, 2022, and 2025." This recognition underscores the club's firm establishment within the African football landscape.
This season alone, Berkane has already clinched the Moroccan Botola Pro league title and stands on the brink of an extraordinary quadruple, with opportunities to secure the Cup of the Throne and the CAF Super Cup still in play.
Despite a strong start for Simba, who took the lead through Joshua Mutale after just 17 minutes, their momentum was quickly halted when Yusuf Kagoma received a second yellow card early in the second half. Although Simba's Steven Mukwala managed to find the net again, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The victory not only confirms Berkane's status as one of Africa's most consistent clubs in recent years, boasting three Confederation Cup titles in five seasons and five final appearances since 2019, but also sets the stage for their upcoming clash in the CAF Super Cup. Berkane will face the winner of the CAF Champions League final, which features Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns, who drew 1–1 in their first leg.
