Romuald Wadagni has officially taken office as President of Benin, marking a historic transition as the country adopts a new seven-year presidential mandate system.

The former finance minister was sworn in during a formal ceremony at the presidential palace in Cotonou, attended by national institutions, foreign diplomats, and representatives of international organizations. His election, achieved with an overwhelming majority, reflects strong political continuity following recent reforms.

In his inaugural remarks, President Wadagni emphasized the importance of continuing Benin’s economic and institutional transformation. He highlighted that national progress must be translated into tangible improvements in the daily lives of citizens, particularly households across the country.

The new head of state stressed that economic growth alone is not sufficient unless it leads to visible social benefits. His vision focuses on consolidating state reforms and strengthening governance to ensure long-term stability and development.

Wadagni’s victory follows a constitutional change that extended the presidential term from five to seven years, renewable once. He becomes the fifth president of Benin since independence and succeeds former president Patrice Talon, who completed two terms in office.
