Raising the Bar: Medical Schools Set Stringent 13/20 Entry Threshold

In a move to uphold academic excellence, the Moroccan Minister of Higher Education, Abdellatif Miraoui, has issued a directive to private institutions offering degrees in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. This directive stipulates that the minimum selection threshold for candidates must align with the standards set by public medical faculties, which currently stand at an impressive 13 out of 20.

The ministerial note outlines the formula for determining this critical threshold. Seventy-five percent of the calculation is derived from the general average scores obtained in the national examination for the second year of the baccalaureate, while the remaining twenty-five percent is drawn from the general average scores attained in the regional examination for the first year of the baccalaureate. Notably, continuous assessment grades are excluded from this calculation.

For international candidates holding foreign baccalaureates, the selection threshold is determined by their overall general average scores.

With the nationwide medical school entrance examination slated for August 3, Minister Miraoui has urged private institutions to uphold the rights of admitted candidates by facilitating the enrollment process seamlessly.

This directive underscores the government's unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest academic standards within the medical field. By setting a uniform and rigorous entry threshold, the aim is to cultivate a pool of exceptional talent capable of meeting the demands of a profession that holds the well-being of society in its hands.

As the nation's future medical professionals brace themselves for this pivotal examination, the implementation of this directive ensures that only the most dedicated and academically gifted candidates will secure their place in the hallowed halls of medical education. This paves the way for a healthcare system that prioritizes excellence above all else.
