Political Tensions Rise: Lahcen Haddad Urges easyJet to Correct Morocco's Map or Face Consequences
Lahcen Haddad, a prominent Moroccan political figure and former Minister of Tourism, has issued a stern warning to the British airline easyJet regarding the inaccurate representation of Morocco on its maps. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Haddad emphasized the urgent need for the airline to amend its depiction of Morocco to include the Moroccan Sahara, a region that Morocco considers an integral part of its territory.
. @easyJet doit rectifier et mettre la bonne carte du Maroc avec son Sahara; sinon en tant que parlementaire, je vais demander aux autorités marocaines de suspendre toute relation avec cette compagnie aérienne. @easyJet_press @easyJetholidays @easyjetservice @easyJet_DE https://t.co/nHPyQ0YkGc

In his statement, Haddad, who currently serves as a parliamentarian, declared that failure to rectify this issue could lead him to urge Moroccan authorities to suspend all relations with easyJet. This remark highlights the heightened political sensitivity surrounding the status of the Moroccan Sahara, a matter of national sovereignty for the Kingdom.
The stakes for easyJet are considerable, given its significant presence in Morocco's tourism market, facilitating travel for thousands of European tourists to various Moroccan destinations. Correcting the map representation is crucial for maintaining positive relations with Morocco.
Haddad, known for his commitment to national causes, did not mince words, asserting that easyJet's oversight could have serious diplomatic repercussions if not addressed promptly.
