Pakistan helicopter crash during training exercise kills five

A government helicopter crashed on Monday during a training exercise in northern Pakistan, killing five people, local police reported.

The helicopter, operated by the local government, was attempting to land at a newly constructed heliport in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, an area known for its high mountains and glaciers. The crew included two pilots and three technicians.

Abdul Hameed, a local police official, stated that the helicopter was participating in a routine exercise when the accident occurred. “The crew was practicing landing procedures on the new heliport when the helicopter went down,” he said.

Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, but authorities warned that the remote location and challenging terrain could slow recovery operations. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
