Morocco's premier phosphate producer, OCP Group, is taking a significant step to invigorate the nation's burgeoning sports scene with the establishment of a new subsidiary dedicated to football excellence.

Securing authorization in early January, OCP Group's wholly-owned offshoot, "OCP Sport Development," is poised to inject an initial investment of $38 million into the enhancement of Morocco's sports infrastructure and governance.

This strategic move aligns with King Mohammed VI's vision for the sports industry, emphasizing training programs and state-of-the-art facilities, particularly in close proximity to OCP's industrial hubs.

The primary focus of "OCP Sport Development" is the construction of training centers and academies in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The subsidiary aims to elevate coaching standards, identify budding talents, establish academic pathways, and support athletes in transitioning into post-playing careers.

The launch of this subsidiary comes in the wake of Morocco's exceptional performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Atlas Lions captured the attention of a global audience. It also builds on OCP Group's October 2023 basketball initiative in partnership with NBA Africa.

Capitalizing on the current surge in Moroccan sports enthusiasm, OCP Group aims to capitalize on the momentum to enhance sporting infrastructure and nurture promising talents. Under the 25-year strategic roadmap of the new subsidiary, OCP will leverage significant internal funding and bank loans to achieve a projected 5.4% return on investment.

The formal approval not only grants OCP Group the legal mandate to transform public goods for private sports development but also positions Morocco's youth to access world-class training grounds. OCP's initiative accelerates the country's transformation into a hub of sporting excellence.
