Morocco's Atlantic Vision: Bridging Europe and Africa Through Economic Cooperation

Morocco is spearheading an ambitious initiative to reshape Europe-Africa relations, according to former French Member of the European Parliament Florence Kuntz. In a recent article published by Africapresse.paris, Kuntz highlighted King Mohammed VI's Atlantic initiative as a potential game-changer for North-South cooperation.

The initiative envisions an "Atlantic Arc" connecting Europe and Africa, fostering deeper collaboration across continents. Morocco aims to unite the African Atlantic seaboard and landlocked Sahelian states into a cohesive economic and cultural region, creating what Kuntz describes as a "high point of human communion, a pole of economic integration, and a focus of continental and international influence."

Central to this vision is the recognition of shared challenges arising from common oceanic borders. The Atlantic Port of Dakhla stands as a prime example of the project's potential, serving as a vital gateway to Africa and an attractive hub for foreign investment. This is particularly significant within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Another key element of the initiative is the proposed Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic gas pipeline, which would run along the West African coast. Kuntz identifies this project as crucial for solidifying economic ties between Europe and Africa.

Looking ahead, the 2030 Football World Cup, co-hosted by Africa and Europe, is seen as a powerful tool for promoting Atlantic soft power. Kuntz believes this event could catalyze a range of economic and logistical projects, further advancing the Europe-Africa partnership.

The French politician, now a consultant in European institutional strategies and public affairs, urges future EU leaders to embrace this vision. She argues that Morocco's Atlantic initiative is key to reinforcing ties between Europe and Africa, potentially invigorating North-South dialogue and cooperation as the European Parliament enters its next legislative session.

As Morocco continues to push forward with this ambitious plan, it remains to be seen how it will reshape the economic and diplomatic landscape between the two continents. The initiative represents a bold step towards creating a more integrated and prosperous Atlantic region, with potential benefits for both African and European nations.
