Morocco's bid to secure their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations trophy faces a significant setback as their head coach, Walid Regragui, contends with a contentious suspension handed down by CAF after their group stage clash with DR Congo.

The Disciplinary Committee's decision to bench Regragui for four matches, with two suspended, has drawn vehement objections from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). In a forceful statement, the FRMF decried the sanction as "unfounded and unjust," asserting that Regragui "did not commit any act contrary to fair play."

Expressing their dissatisfaction, the federation plans to file an appeal in hopes of overturning the suspension, emphasizing Regragui's exemplary behavior during and after the tense 1-1 draw in Rabat. Although tempers flared on the sidelines post-match, the FRMF maintains that Regragui remained composed amid the chaos.

As Morocco's qualification to the knockout rounds teeters on uncertainty, facing a crucial clash against Belgium, the absence of Regragui's guidance on the touchline is an unwelcome development. His strategic acumen has played a pivotal role in revitalizing Les Lions de l'Atlas after a challenging period.

While acknowledging any regrettable incidents, the FRMF underscored the deep historical ties between Morocco and DR Congo—bonds they hope will endure despite the ongoing dispute. Presently, their primary focus is on persuading the appeals committee that justice has not been served in Regragui's case, with the destiny of their AFCON campaign hanging precariously in the balance.
