During the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) in New York, Morocco's Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Aawatif Hayar, delivered a powerful address highlighting the Kingdom's steadfast efforts to promote women's rights and gender equality under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Hayar's words resonated as a testament to Morocco's unwavering commitment to empowering women and fostering an inclusive society where gender parity is not merely an aspiration but a tangible reality in the making.

Quoting the King's poignant words from his 2022 Throne Day speech, the minister underscored the monarch's resolute vision: "Our ambition is to continue building an advanced and dignified Morocco. It is therefore essential that all Moroccans, men and women alike, play an active part in the development dynamic. That is why we insist once again on the need for Moroccan women to make their full contribution in all areas."

Hayar's address painted a vivid picture of Morocco's multifaceted approach to gender equality, highlighting the King's recent initiative to update the Family Code. This groundbreaking reform seeks to reinforce the balance within the family, aligning with the Constitution and international conventions ratified by the Kingdom. In an unprecedented move, the process has been opened to civil society bodies and researchers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive dialogue.

Moreover, the minister emphasized the King's commitment to generalize social protection, an initiative aimed at reducing poverty, increasing the purchasing power of families, including those headed by women, and ensuring universal access to mandatory health insurance.

Hayar proudly highlighted Morocco's establishment of the National Committee for Gender Equality and the Advancement of Women, a participatory mechanism that brings together stakeholders from various sectors to shape the government's equality plan for 2023–2026 and the strategy for equality and parity by 2035. This comprehensive strategy encompasses efficiency indicators, initiatives, and a dedicated annual budget, complemented by a digital monitoring system to ensure accountability and progress.

Furthermore, the minister underscored the government's efforts to improve financing for women's empowerment, citing initiatives such as "Forsa," "Intilaka," and "GISSR," which aim to support women in challenging circumstances. Hayar also emphasized Morocco's positioning as a leader in gender-sensitive budgeting and financial inclusion, vital steps towards bridging the gender gap.

As Morocco continues to make strides in female participation and visibility, the minister's comments serve as a resounding affirmation of the Kingdom's commitment to accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, echoing the theme of CSW68.

Through legal reforms, nationwide awareness-raising campaigns, and resolute political will, Morocco is paving the way for a future where women's rights are not just celebrated but ingrained in the fabric of society, a future where gender equality is not merely a dream but a tangible reality.
