Morocco's Colossal World Cup 2030 Bid Takes Shape as Benslimane Stadium Project Kicks Off
In a bold move towards realizing its ambitious bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, Morocco has initiated the construction of the grand Casablanca stadium in Benslimane. The National Agency for Public Works (ANEP), under the Ministry of Equipment and Water, has launched an international call for tenders for the general earthworks (excavation) for this colossal project.
This stadium, one of the kingdom's major sporting ventures, will span an impressive 100 hectares in Mansouria, approximately 38 kilometers from Casablanca. The cost of the earthworks is estimated to exceed 36 billion centimes, including the establishment of temporary roads, site leveling, and waste removal. A provisional bond of 3.5 billion centimes has also been set for bidders, with the session for opening bids scheduled for August 12, 2024, marking a pivotal milestone in the project's progression.
Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, underscored that this stadium will primarily cater to the needs of local football clubs, Raja and Wydad of Casablanca, while adhering to international standards.
The architectural firms Populous and Oualalou+Choi have been selected to design this stadium, which promises to be the world's largest, boasting a capacity of 115,000 seats. The design draws inspiration from traditional Moroccan culture, representing a vast tent with natural elements typical of the Moroccan landscape.
