Hassan Zouhri, the director of Maroc Citrus, a key player in the industry, sheds light on the upward trend. Zouhri attributes the anticipated success to higher yields resulting from the trees' alternating cycle, a factor significantly influencing productivity.

In the upcoming 2023-2024 season, Morocco is expected to witness a notable rise in citrus production, with estimates reaching a substantial 1.9 million tons, a significant uptick from the 1.7 million tons recorded in the previous campaign. Industry experts forecast an increase ranging between 15 to 20 percent, signaling a robust performance despite challenges.

Acknowledging the challenging landscape marked by unfavorable weather and intense competition, the Moroccan citrus sector remains resilient. The surge in production and exports is seen as a testament to the industry's adaptability and strategic positioning in the global market.

To further fortify the processing industry, a significant development is on the horizon. The crush premium, set to be implemented in early 2024, aims to provide an additional boost to the already thriving citrus sector.

Morocco's citrus industry stands as a beacon of success amid challenges, with a projected surge in production and exports for the upcoming season. The strategic resilience and adaptability of the sector, coupled with the forthcoming crush premium, position Morocco as a key player in the global citrus market. As the industry continues to thrive, it exemplifies how innovation and strategic initiatives can propel growth even in the face of adversity.
