Morocco's aviation sector is propelling the nation to new heights, solidifying its position as a key player in Africa's aerospace resurgence. In a strategic maneuver, the national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and French aeronautic giant Safran have signed a memorandum of understanding, strengthening their collaboration in the domain of aircraft engine maintenance.

Under the agreement inked by RAM CEO Hamid Addou and Safran Aircraft Engines President Jean-Paul Alary, the Safran Aircraft Engine Services Morocco (SAESM) facility is set to undergo a significant expansion. With an investment of 30 million Moroccan dirhams (approximately $2.94 million), the facility will undergo a 2,000-square-meter extension, facilitating a tenfold increase in maintenance operations from 70 to an impressive 700 "shop visits" annually by 2026.

This substantial growth will also see the creation of 100 new jobs, emphasizing Morocco's dedication to cultivating a skilled workforce capable of driving the nation's aerospace aspirations forward.

Addou hailed the partnership as a landmark achievement, stating, "Royal Air Maroc is honored to collaborate with Safran to advance Morocco's aviation sector and bolster our country's standing in the global aerospace arena." Alary echoed this sentiment, expressing satisfaction in deepening cooperation with RAM and tapping into Morocco's burgeoning pool of high-level expertise.

The deal follows a comprehensive agreement inked between the Moroccan government and Safran in December 2022, aimed at fostering collaboration and advancing the country's aerospace industrial ecosystem. The accord aims to cultivate a robust local supply chain, identify and support the production capacities of Safran's suppliers and service providers in Morocco, and strengthen research and technology initiatives.

Furthermore, the pact underscores the significance of nurturing domestic talent, with initiatives designed to enhance local skills and competencies through bolstered training programs and partnerships with engineering schools and universities.

Morocco's ascent in the aviation sector has garnered international attention, with prestigious publications such as Forbes recognizing the nation's progress. Last year, Forbes dubbed Morocco "Africa's gateway to an aviation renaissance," acknowledging the country's impressive growth trajectory along the Mediterranean periphery.

As Morocco continues its upward trajectory, the latest partnership between Royal Air Maroc and Safran solidifies the nation's commitment to carving out a prominent position in the global aerospace arena, poised to usher in a new era of innovation and excellence.
