Morocco Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council
Morocco has reiterated its unwavering support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council as the legitimate authority of the Republic of Yemen. This position was reaffirmed by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, during a joint press conference with his Yemeni counterpart following the sixth session of the Morocco-Yemen Joint Commission in Rabat.
The minister emphasized that resolving the Yemeni crisis requires a lasting political solution that preserves Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He highlighted the necessity of adhering to United Nations Security Council resolutions—particularly Resolution 2216—as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and its implementation mechanisms, alongside the recommendations of Yemen’s National Dialogue.
Furthermore, Morocco firmly rejects foreign interference in Yemen, particularly external support for armed militias, which undermines the country's sovereignty, destabilizes the region, and threatens its territorial unity. The minister stressed that any resolution must respect the will of the Yemeni people and their legitimate authorities. He urged regional and international actors to assist Yemenis in finding their own solutions rather than imposing external decisions.
The humanitarian dimension of the Yemeni crisis remains a priority for Morocco. His Majesty King Mohammed VI has given significant attention to this aspect, exemplified by Morocco’s financial contribution to the 2021 High-Level Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen. The minister called on the international community to support the legitimate Yemeni government in addressing the needs of the Yemeni people and reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to participating in international efforts to provide humanitarian aid.
