Morocco Pioneers Cybersecurity and Digital Sovereignty with New Strategy

Morocco is spearheading a transformative journey towards comprehensive digitalization and modernization under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. However, amidst this rapid technological evolution, the nation is steadfastly prioritizing cybersecurity and digital sovereignty.

At the recent 5th Cyber Security Conclave in Rabat, Minister Delegate Abdeltif Loudiyi underscored Morocco's commitment to accelerating digitization while ensuring a secure cyberspace. Since 2011, the country has been diligently constructing a robust cybersecurity framework, marked by the establishment of pivotal institutions such as the General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), enactment of pertinent legal safeguards, and intensive human resource development efforts.

International collaboration stands as a cornerstone of Morocco's cybersecurity endeavors. The nation has entered into bilateral agreements on cybersecurity and actively participates in global and regional cybersecurity initiatives. Minister Loudiyi highlighted ongoing efforts to update Morocco's national cybersecurity strategy through the DGSSI, aiming to bolster security and resilience in the face of evolving cyber threats.

Key focal points of this strategy revolve around evaluating the security ramifications of widespread cloud computing adoption and fortifying defenses for essential digital infrastructure. In light of the rapid proliferation of transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), Minister Loudiyi stressed the imperative of concerted action among governments, private enterprises, and institutions to facilitate information sharing and expertise cultivation.

Given Morocco's unique African and Arab identity, Minister Loudiyi emphasized the significance of international cooperation programs aimed at exchanging cybersecurity best practices and fostering expertise, particularly with neighboring regional counterparts, in alignment with esteemed royal directives.

The recent two-day Rabat event, convened by the DGSSI and the UAE Cybersecurity Council, saw over 350 leaders from both public and private sectors congregate to deliberate on cutting-edge strategies and approaches for combating cyber threats and advancing digital sovereignty.

By championing proactive cybersecurity measures and fostering international collaboration, Morocco is solidifying its position as a regional leader in the realm of cybersecurity and digital resilience.
