Morocco hosts Egyptian trade mission to expand food ties
Morocco received a delegation of 31 Egyptian companies from the food, printing, and packaging sectors in a move aimed at expanding commercial cooperation and strengthening bilateral trade links. The mission focused on identifying investment opportunities and building partnerships within Morocco’s growing food market.
The initiative was organized through coordination between Egypt’s Food Export Council and several institutional partners in Morocco and Egypt, including diplomatic and commercial representation bodies as well as food safety authorities. It also involved collaboration with a French business institution operating in Morocco, reflecting the multi-institutional framework supporting the visit.
Officials presented detailed briefings on Morocco’s food industry structure, regulatory framework, and import procedures. The national food safety authority outlined health control requirements for imported goods, while customs officials explained trade regulations and documentation processes applied to foreign companies entering the market.
Market dynamics and consumer behavior were also central to the discussions. Representatives from major retail distribution groups highlighted evolving demand patterns, while local trade actors described the functioning of wholesale networks and supply chains that shape food distribution across urban centers.
Economic data shared during the mission indicated that Morocco imported around 9.6 billion dollars in food products in 2024, representing a significant share of its overall imports. Egyptian representatives described the market as a strategic destination for expanding exports and increasing commercial presence in North Africa.
The program also included field visits to large retail outlets and commercial hubs in key cities, allowing Egyptian companies to observe pricing structures, product preferences, and logistics operations. Additional meetings between Egyptian firms and Moroccan importers focused on exploring long term cooperation in supply and distribution channels.
