Morocco halts motorcycle inspection campaign after public outcry
The Moroccan government has suspended the national motorcycle inspection campaign following widespread public criticism and heated debate on social media.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch ordered the suspension on Thursday morning and granted a 12-month grace period for riders to comply with existing regulations. This transitional period will focus on awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of engine modifications and their link to road accidents.
Transport and Logistics Minister Abdelssamad Kayouh has requested precise data on the number of motorcycles inspected and the violations recorded. This information will allow the National Road Safety Agency to draft a new directive that takes into account both technical requirements and the public debate.
Authorities are also examining concerns related to motorcycles imported from China, some of which reportedly include technical alterations. Coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Customs Administration is expected to ensure a balanced approach that combines road safety with fairness for users.
Technical experts have warned that some modifications involve sensitive parts, such as the cylinder, requiring careful handling of the issue.
