Morocco Experiences a Slight Increase in COVID-19 Cases, Surpassing 24 Million Fully Vaccinated
Morocco has observed a modest rise in COVID-19 cases, with 130 new infections reported over the past week, as per data released by the country's Health Ministry on Friday. The majority of these cases were concentrated in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region (39 cases) and the Grand Casablanca-Settat region (27 cases).
Despite this increase, Morocco's COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues to make steady progress. The nation has achieved a significant milestone by fully vaccinating over 23 million individuals with two doses and nearly 7 million with three doses. Additionally, more than 60,000 Moroccans have received a fourth booster shot.
With these new cases, Morocco's total COVID-19 infections since the onset of the pandemic have surpassed 1.27 million, accompanied by a test positivity rate of 5.7% over the past week. The total reported deaths from COVID-19 now stand at 16,300 nationwide. Active cases remain low at 187, underscoring the success of the widespread vaccination efforts.
Moroccan health authorities commend citizens for largely adhering to public health measures. However, they caution that some regions are displaying early signs of a potential new wave. Officials emphasize the importance of continued vigilance, urging the public to maintain masking and hygiene precautions.
