Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP) has successfully concluded the data collection phase of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, marking a significant milestone in the nation's demographic research efforts. The census, which wrapped up at midnight yesterday, saw strong engagement from households and residents across the country.

In a statement released following the completion of the census, the HCP expressed pride in the enthusiastic response from families who welcomed census teams into their homes and actively participated in the survey process. This level of cooperation is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the collected data.

The HCP has already begun processing the gathered information at its dedicated data management center, where the census data has been securely centralized and digitized. This swift transition from collection to analysis underscores the efficiency of the operation and the importance placed on data security.

The success of the census was attributed not only to public participation but also to the professionalism of the research teams. The HCP commended the researchers, supervisors, and monitors for their adherence to high ethical standards and respectful interactions with families from diverse backgrounds. Their commitment to protecting privacy and honoring traditions was highlighted as a key factor in gaining public trust.

Local authorities and security services were also recognized for their contributions to the smooth execution of this major national undertaking. Their support played a crucial role in facilitating the work of census teams across the country.

Ahmad Lahlimi Alami, the High Commissioner for Planning, had previously emphasized the importance of nationwide mobilization for the success of Census 2024. Speaking to the press in August, Lahlimi described the census as a vital reference index designed to provide valuable insights into Morocco's growth potential.

The High Commissioner also highlighted the significance of preliminary cartographic work in this year's census. An integrated information system incorporating updated digital maps and two types of cartography, one for buildings and another for economic establishments was implemented. This innovative approach utilized a mobile geographic information system (GIS) and high-resolution satellite imagery, representing a technological leap in Morocco's census-taking capabilities.

As the HCP moves forward with data processing and analysis, the results of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census are eagerly anticipated. These findings are expected to offer crucial insights into Morocco's demographic landscape, informing policy decisions and development strategies in the years to come.

The successful completion of this comprehensive census demonstrates Morocco's commitment to data-driven governance and underscores the importance of public participation in national statistical initiatives. As the country awaits the release of the census results, the collaborative effort between the government and citizens in this endeavor sets a positive precedent for future national projects.
