In a historic moment, Morocco has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by securing its inaugural presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council, garnering accolades and warm wishes from the United States.

The United States, represented by its ambassador and permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Michele Taylor, extended heartfelt congratulations to Ambassador Omar Zniber, Morocco's representative at the UN Human Rights Council. Ambassador Taylor, in a post teeming with enthusiasm on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), conveyed her country's joy and excitement at the election results.

She wrote, "A heartfelt congratulations to @Morocco_UNOG Ambassador Omar Zniber on his election as the President of @UN_HRC."

Underlining the United States' eagerness to collaborate with Morocco, Ambassador Taylor emphasized their joint commitment to advancing human rights globally. "United, we can forge a path towards universal respect and equality," she added, underscoring the shared vision of both nations.

During the recent organizational meeting, Morocco secured the presidency of the UN Human Rights Council for the year 2024. The election witnessed thirty out of forty-seven council members casting their votes in favor of Morocco, while seventeen votes were garnered by South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco celebrated this momentous achievement, interpreting it as a testament to the "confidence and credibility inspired by Morocco's foreign action" under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. This victory further solidifies Morocco's growing influence in Africa, its standing on the international stage, and its active participation within the multilateral system.
