Morocco Advocates for Palestinian Cause at UN General Assembly, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire
The 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly witnessed Morocco reaffirming its commitment to the Palestinian cause and calling for urgent humanitarian action in the Middle East conflict. During the High-level Week in New York on September 27, 2024, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita delivered a press declaration emphasizing Morocco's diplomatic priorities regarding the Palestinian question.
Minister Bourita reiterated Morocco's stance, as previously expressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, urging for an immediate ceasefire as a crucial first step towards a comprehensive political solution to the long-standing Middle East conflict. The Moroccan position underscores the importance of de-escalation and dialogue in achieving lasting peace in the region.
His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, has ordered humanitarian support to alleviate suffering in the affected areas. This initiative aims to address the pressing needs of those impacted by the ongoing crisis while simultaneously working towards fostering conditions conducive to a two-state solution. Morocco envisions the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, reflecting its commitment to a just and sustainable resolution to the conflict.
The Moroccan Foreign Minister did not mince words when addressing the humanitarian crisis. He pointedly condemned Israel's actions, stating that the killing of children and women, as well as the destruction of hospitals and schools, were unacceptable. Bourita emphasized that Morocco consistently denounces such actions, highlighting the kingdom's firm stance on protecting civilian lives and infrastructure in conflict zones.
This declaration at the UN General Assembly reaffirms Morocco's active role in Middle Eastern diplomacy and its dedication to supporting Palestinian rights.
