Moroccan Woman Awarded Compensation for AstraZeneca Vaccine Side Effects

In a landmark ruling, the Administrative Court of Rabat has issued a verdict in a case relating to the "side effects of the coronavirus vaccine." A Moroccan woman who suffered partial paralysis after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine had filed a lawsuit against the state.

The Administrative Court of Rabat decided that "the Moroccan State, represented by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection," must pay the plaintiff compensation of 250,000 dirhams and cover legal expenses within the determined amount, while rejecting other demands.

This court decision comes two years after the woman filed a complaint alleging she had been paralyzed in her face and lower limbs following the administration of a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The court's verdict coincides with the controversy surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine, which has been linked to potential severe side effects in vaccinated individuals.

The British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of the vaccine, announced on Wednesday that it would be withdrawing its COVID-19 vaccine, one of the first to be produced during the pandemic, due to "commercial reasons" and an excess of expired doses.

Government Reassures Moroccans

In a similar context, the government reassured Moroccans on Thursday regarding recent concerns over AstraZeneca's acknowledgment that its COVID-19 vaccines could cause side effects, potentially leading to death.

Mustapha El Khalfi, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, stated that all vaccines used in the kingdom can only be administered after receiving approval from specialized scientific committees.

The court's decision in favor of the affected woman highlights the importance of accountability and transparency regarding the potential risks associated with vaccines. While the AstraZeneca vaccine played a crucial role in combating the pandemic, it is essential to acknowledge and address any adverse effects experienced by individuals.
