Moroccan Think Tank PCNS Collaborates with UN to Drive Inclusive Industrial Growth
In a significant move aimed at bolstering sustainable industrial development worldwide, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) have forged a strategic partnership. This collaboration, formalized on June 6th at the PCNS headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, aims to drive inclusive and sustainable industrialization, particularly addressing the unique challenges faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The partnership agreement was signed by Hanan Hanzaz, UNIDO's Director General Special Representative for the Arab Region and Chief of the Regional Bureau for Arab States, and Karim El Aynaoui, Executive President of the Policy Center for the New South. This alliance combines UNIDO's global expertise in industrial development with PCNS's research prowess, paving the way for a comprehensive approach to fostering economic growth and social progress.
Under the terms of the agreement, UNIDO and PCNS will join forces in policy research, policy advice, and capacity-building initiatives across critical areas essential for industrial development. Their collaboration will encompass the formulation of industrial policies and strategies, structural transformation, productivity enhancement, and industrial decarbonization.
Moreover, the two institutions will synergize their efforts in sustainable supply chain management, promoting circular economies, advancing science, technology, and innovation, as well as the digitalization of industries and climate action strategies. By leveraging their combined strengths, UNIDO and PCNS aim to create a lasting impact on the global industrial landscape, ensuring that no country or region is left behind.
Hanan Hanzaz underscored the significance of this partnership, stating, "Our collaboration with PCNS represents a strategic alliance that will amplify our efforts in fostering inclusive and sustainable industrial development, particularly in LDCs and SIDS. By combining our expertise and resources, we can more effectively address the unique challenges faced by these nations and contribute to their long-term economic and social progress."
