Moroccan Officials Forge Partnerships to Strengthen Human Rights Framework
On December 12, 2024, Moroccan officials, along with representatives from professional organizations and the country’s Inter-ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, came together to commemorate International Human Rights Day by signing a series of key partnership agreements. These agreements aim to enhance human rights protection and promote collaboration across various sectors of society.
The signing ceremony saw significant contributions from Morocco’s Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi and Mohamed Abdennabaoui, Vice President of the Supreme Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ). They signed a landmark agreement designed to bolster cooperation between justice system stakeholders, particularly in the realms of criminal justice and human rights. This agreement outlines mechanisms to strengthen mutual efforts and streamline processes in areas of shared interest within the justice system.
In a separate agreement, Economic Inclusion Minister Younes Sekkouri partnered with the Inter-ministerial Delegation to advance economic and social rights. Their agreement specifically targets the protection of employees' rights in the workplace, highlighting the importance of educating labor inspectors to foster a culture of human rights respect across various work environments.
Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Azzedine El Midaoui formalized a partnership with the delegation aimed at integrating human rights into university curricula and research initiatives. This move is designed to promote human rights awareness within Morocco’s academic institutions, ensuring that future leaders are well-versed in these critical issues.
Additionally, Youth, Culture, and Communication Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid signed an agreement focused on promoting human rights through youth programs, cultural initiatives, and communication campaigns. This agreement will engage youth centers, women’s shelters, and child protection facilities, working together to raise awareness and provide education on human rights.
A final agreement was made with UN Women Morocco to launch a comprehensive action plan for 2025–2027. This plan, which introduces the concept of gender mainstreaming, emphasizes the inclusion of both women's and men's perspectives in policymaking. It also highlights gender analysis, women’s empowerment, and the organization of joint seminars aimed at fostering gender equality across Morocco’s human rights initiatives.
These agreements represent a significant step in Morocco's ongoing commitment to human rights, creating a framework that promotes education, inclusion, and equal opportunity across multiple sectors of society.
