In a significant demonstration of Morocco's dedication to the intersection of sports and sustainable development, Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch attended the prestigious summit for Sport and Sustainable Development in Paris. This notable event, held on the eve of the Olympic Games' opening ceremony, saw Akhannouch representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Joining Akhannouch was the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, underscoring the Moroccan government's holistic approach to integrating sports within the broader framework of national development.

The summit, orchestrated by the French Presidency and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with substantial backing from the French Development Agency (AFD), convened an impressive array of participants. These included heads of state and government, prominent international organization leaders, celebrated athletes, and key figures from the sports movement, along with influential development financing stakeholders.

Strategically timed just before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11) and the Paralympic Games (August 28 – September 8), the summit focused on promoting initiatives in five crucial areas: education and employment, health and nutrition, equality and inclusion, financing and impact measurement, and sustainability and legacy. These initiatives are meticulously designed to underscore sport's vital role in advancing sustainable development goals on a global scale.

According to summit organizers, the highlighted initiatives serve to illustrate the powerful synergy between sports and sustainable development, demonstrating how sports can be a catalyst for positive change across various sectors.

Akhannouch's early arrival in Paris on Thursday afternoon for the Olympic Games' opening ceremony further emphasized Morocco's unwavering commitment to the dual goals of sports excellence and sustainable development. This participation not only reflects Morocco's active engagement on the international stage but also reinforces the nation's strategic vision of leveraging sports as a vehicle for broader societal progress.

With a keen focus on the future, Morocco continues to champion the cause of sustainable development through the universal language of sports, setting a commendable example for nations worldwide.
