Moroccan footballer Neil El Aynaoui and family victims of violent home robbery in Rome
Neil El Aynaoui, midfielder for AS Roma, and his family experienced a terrifying night after being tied up during a violent home burglary in Rome. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday night in the Castel Fusano neighborhood.
According to local media, six masked and armed intruders broke into the house by forcing a window security gate. The attackers first restrained El Aynaoui and then locked him, his mother, and his brother in a room, threatening them with knives.
“They put a knife to my throat, took everything, and left, telling us to stay silent,” the player’s mother told Italian reporters. The thieves reportedly stole jewelry, watches, and luxury handbags, with damages estimated at over €10,000.
Such targeted burglaries against footballers are not uncommon in Rome. Past victims include players from AS Roma and SS Lazio, such as Philippe Mexès, Christian Panucci, Mattia Zaccagni, and Chris Smalling.
The case is under investigation by the local criminal police division, which has handled similar incidents in the past. El Aynaoui has informed his club, and he and his family remain deeply shaken by the ordeal.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, highlighting a rise in targeted home burglaries involving high-profile individuals in the Italian capital.
