In a diplomatic endeavor aimed at fortifying the relationship between Morocco and the Canadian province of New Brunswick, Souriya Otmani, the Moroccan ambassador to Canada, conducted a series of high-level meetings with key officials during her visit to Fredericton, the provincial capital.

During discussions held on the sidelines of an official visit of French-speaking ambassadors accredited to Ottawa from February 12th to 15th, Otmani met with Bill Hogan, the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, alongside two deputy ministers, Ryan Donaghy and Julie Mason, from the same department, as reported by a statement from the Moroccan Embassy.

The primary focus of the discussions was to explore potential partnerships in education between Morocco and the Canadian province, demonstrating both parties’ dedication to enhancing educational opportunities.

Additionally, Otmani met with Greg Turner, the Minister responsible for Economic Development, Small Business, Immigration, and officials from “Opportunities New Brunswick,” to delve into economic and commercial investment prospects in Morocco.

Diversifying the scope of discussions, Otmani also engaged with Tammy Scott Wallace, the Minister of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture, who expressed interest in establishing partnerships with Morocco in the tourism sector, highlighting the potential for mutual growth in this industry.

Moreover, talks extended to identifying avenues to raise awareness of Morocco’s cultural and tourist attractions in New Brunswick, emphasizing the shared commitment to promoting cultural exchange and tourism between the two regions.

Otmani further interacted with members of the Moroccan community residing in Moncton and Fredericton, including students and professors from the University of Moncton, the sole French-speaking university in the province.

In discussions with members of the Association of Moroccans in New Brunswick, participants expressed their satisfaction with the increasingly digitized consular services and annual mobile consulate initiatives.

New Brunswick, one of Canada’s eastern maritime provinces, renowned for its rivers, pine forests, mountains, and the Bay of Fundy, presents a promising ground for further collaboration between Morocco and Canada.
