Mawazine 2026 reveals new lineup spanning Arab classical music, reggaeton and Afro-fusion
The 19th edition of the Mawazine festival, set to run from June 19 to 27 in Rabat, has unveiled a new wave of headliners spanning classical Arabic song, Latin pop, and African electronic music. Six artists with markedly different musical universes join a program that reflects the festival's longstanding ambition to bridge regional traditions and global sounds.
The opening night on Friday June 19 will be headlined by Syrian singer Mayada El Hennawy at the Théâtre National Mohammed V. Born in Aleppo and associated with a career that unfolded in part in Egypt alongside legendary composers including Mohamed Abdel Wahab, El Hennawy is a respected figure of Arab classical song and is expected to deliver an evening of traditional tarab. The choice to open the festival with her sets a tone rooted in the Arab musical heritage that Mawazine consistently honors alongside its international programming.
Monday June 22 brings two simultaneous concerts to the capital. Puerto Rican reggaeton icon Nicky Jam, known for global hits including El Perdón, will perform on the international stage at OLM Souissi. On the same evening, Angolan artist Pongo, based in Lisbon, takes the Bouregreg stage at 10:30 p.m. with a set that blends kuduro, electro, and Afro-fusion, bringing a distinctly lusophone African energy to the festival.
The Nahda stage, dedicated to Arab and Moroccan popular music, will host two major names later in the program. Moroccan singer Hatim Ammor, a leading figure of contemporary national pop, performs on June 24. Egyptian star Tamer Hosny closes the festival on June 27. Nicknamed Star of the Generation and the first Arab artist to leave his handprints at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Hosny is known for his stage energy and romantic repertoire. Together, the newly announced acts reinforce Mawazine's position as one of the region's most eclectic and internationally ambitious music festivals.
