Maritime: Resumption of the Tanger Med–Motril shipping line
The Port Authority of Motril, in southern Spain, has announced the resumption of the maritime connection with Tanger Med following the reorganization of routes operated by the ferry company Balearia.
In a statement, the Port Authority said it is actively seeking a new operator to ensure the continuity and efficiency of this line, which has shown “very positive” results since its launch in December 2022.
Since its opening, the Tanger Med–Motril route has handled a total of 1.27 million tonnes of cargo. Traffic has grown significantly, from 10,886 tonnes in its first month to 444,449 tonnes in 2023, 456,031 tonnes in 2024, and 361,632 tonnes during the first eight months of 2025.
This growth is also reflected in truck transport, which increased from 380 units in December 2022 to 16,310 in 2023, 17,511 in 2024, and already 14,636 in 2025, just before the final quarter.
