Marine Tondelier announces 2027 bid with focus on ecology and social change
Marine Tondelier, the national secretary of the French Ecologists and party leader since 2022, has declared her candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. In an interview with Nouvel Obs, Tondelier described her decision as "an act of love for France," citing profound concerns about the country's current trajectory.
Rejecting political inaction, Tondelier expressed her determination to confront France's challenges head-on, despite consistent polling below 5%. “I am a woman, young, and an ecologist,” she stated, highlighting her identity and background from the mining region of Pas-de-Calais. Acknowledging the uphill battle ahead, she vowed to break stereotypes and avoid being “a mere decorative figure.”
Tondelier criticized the political system as outdated and pledged to transform the public's enthusiasm for environmental policies into actionable political influence. She stressed the urgency of converting support for green initiatives into votes, warning that abstaining from the presidential race would squander a vital opportunity for change.
Although her platform is still being finalized, Tondelier has outlined plans to prioritize investments in public services and expand the social and solidarity economy. She seeks to challenge the prevailing capitalist model, which she described as “toxic” and incompatible with the planet's ecological limits.
Before officially entering the race, Tondelier must meet procedural requirements. However, her candidacy marks a bold step toward reshaping France’s political landscape with a focus on ecological and social renewal.
