Man shot dead in Grenoble as investigation points to targeted attack
A 27-year-old man has died after being shot overnight in Grenoble, in what authorities believe may have been a targeted attack linked to criminal activity.
Police were called to the Villeneuve–Village-Olympique district shortly before 1:00 a.m., an area reportedly known for drug trafficking. The victim was found in the street with gunshot wounds to his back and thigh. Emergency services were unable to save him.
Investigators discovered two shell casings at the scene, suggesting a shooting carried out at close range. According to the prosecutor’s office, the man appeared to have been deliberately targeted, as he was struck while facing away from the shooter.
The victim was known to law enforcement and had previous convictions related to drug trafficking and violent offenses. Authorities noted that multiple factors could be linked to the motive, including his past criminal record, alleged involvement in drug activity, or simply his presence at the scene.
In a related development, a 36-year-old man presented himself to authorities with a knee injury believed to have been caused by projectile fragments. He has been taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over urban violence and drug-related crime in parts of France, as authorities continue efforts to address insecurity in sensitive neighborhoods.
