Kurdish protests in France lead to 24 arrests and injured police officers
Several demonstrations organized by members of the Kurdish community in France have resulted in 24 arrests and injuries to more than 20 police officers, according to police sources.
The protests were held in different cities to denounce the ongoing military operations against Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria. In Paris, an undeclared gathering brought together more than a thousand demonstrators near the Invalides district on Tuesday evening. Authorities reported that tensions escalated when projectiles, including fireworks, were thrown at law enforcement officers, prompting police intervention to disperse the crowd.
As a result of the clashes, multiple individuals were detained on charges related to violence against public officials and participation in a group suspected of preparing acts of vandalism. Several officers sustained minor injuries during the operation.
Similar incidents were reported in other parts of the country. In southeastern France, a demonstration involving several hundred participants led to additional injuries among police forces. In the Paris region, other gatherings also resulted in arrests following confrontations with security services.
The protests follow heightened tensions linked to the situation in Syria’s Kurdish-controlled areas, where renewed fighting has sparked concern among Kurdish communities abroad. France hosts one of the largest Kurdish diasporas in Europe, making such mobilizations particularly visible during periods of regional crisis.
