Italian Authorities Penalize Air Arabia Maroc for Breaching Passenger Data Protocols
In a decisive enforcement of European Union regulations, the Italian Border Police have imposed fines totaling €85,000 on Air Arabia Maroc. The low-cost Moroccan airline faced penalties for failing to comply with EU mandates on passenger data submission at Cuneo-Levaldigi Airport.
According to reports, Air Arabia Maroc neglected to provide Passenger Name Record (PNR) data for a flight arriving from Casablanca. This breach violates Legislative Decree 144/2007, which requires airlines to submit PNR details to authorities for flights entering the Schengen Area.
PNR data encompasses crucial information such as passenger names, travel dates, itineraries, seat assignments, and baggage details. Current EU regulations stipulate that airlines must relay this data to border officials in the destination country immediately after boarding for flights originating outside the Schengen Zone.
The provision of PNR data is vital for strengthening border security, thwarting serious crimes including terrorism, and curbing illegal immigration. The Italian Border Police's enforcement actions underscore the importance of these regulations.
The fines were levied following several irregularities identified by the Cuneo Border Police during inspections of an Air Arabia flight from Morocco. Authorities emphasized the necessity of pre-arrival passenger assessments, which involve verifying entry documents and cross-referencing travelers against law enforcement databases.
Beyond data compliance, the Italian Border Police are actively engaged in combating criminal activities such as airport theft, document fraud, and unauthorized immigration. They also implement preventive measures to mitigate potential terrorist threats, ensuring the security of civil aviation.
This enforcement action highlights the ongoing commitment to maintaining stringent border control standards and ensuring the safety of international travel within Europe.
