Göbeklitepe and Tas Tepeler: Türkiye’s 12,000-year-old heritage to feature in Berlin exhibition
Türkiye will showcase its ancient Neolithic heritage in Berlin with a major exhibition titled "Building Community: Göbeklitepe, Tas Tepeler and Life 12,000 Years Ago", opening on February 10. The event, announced by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, will feature 89 artifacts and four replicas from the Şanlıurfa Museum, including 44 pieces displayed for the first time internationally.
The exhibition, hosted at the James-Simon Galerie on Museum Island, will run until July 19 and highlight humanity’s transition from hunter-gatherer groups to early agricultural communities. Visitors will explore architecture, art, religious rituals, and social organization through stone pillars, reliefs, and figurative sculptures from Göbeklitepe and Tas Tepeler.
In addition, photographs by acclaimed artist Isabel Munoz will offer a contemporary perspective on Neolithic landscapes and life. The exhibition aims to bring global attention to the scientific and cultural importance of these archaeological sites, following prior showcases, such as the one at Rome’s Colosseum.
