Gnv strengthens its commitment in Morocco with two new lng-powered vessels
Italian ferry operator GNV has announced the deployment of two next-generation vessels as part of its ongoing expansion in Morocco. The ships, GNV Aurora and GNV Virgo, are scheduled to enter service on June 1 and July 1 respectively, operating along the strategic Genoa–Barcelona–Tanger Med route during the 2026 Marhaba Operation.
These new ferries are powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuels. Their introduction reflects the company’s effort to enhance passenger experience while significantly reducing environmental impact, particularly in terms of emissions.
The launch of these vessels has been made possible through close cooperation with Moroccan authorities and the Tanger Med port complex, a key logistics hub in the Mediterranean. This initiative further reinforces Morocco’s growing importance in Euro-Mediterranean maritime connectivity.
According to GNV’s CEO Matteo Catani, Morocco represents a long-term strategic partner for the company. He emphasized that deploying modern ships for the Marhaba Operation is a concrete way to improve service quality for Moroccan citizens living abroad while contributing to the development of a more efficient and sustainable maritime transport system.
