Germany arrests two suspects accused of supporting separatists in Ukraine
German authorities have arrested two men accused of providing material and financial support to pro-Russian separatist groups in eastern Ukraine. The arrests took place in Brandenburg and involve Russian national Suren A. and German citizen Falko H.
According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the suspects have been linked since 2016 to an association that facilitated the delivery of supplies, medical products, and drones to militias in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. These groups declared control over parts of eastern Ukraine in 2014 and have been involved in clashes with Ukrainian forces while targeting civilians, prosecutors said.
Investigators indicated that Suren A. transferred over €14,000 ($16,400) in association funds to support the separatists, while Falko H. made several trips to the Donbass to coordinate deliveries and assist in distributing goods to the militias. The groups in question were later integrated into Russian military command structures after Moscow annexed the regions in 2022 following a controversial referendum.
Authorities emphasized that the arrests aim to prevent further support to foreign terrorist organizations and hold those providing financial and logistical aid accountable under German law.
