France boosts subsidies for electric vehicle charging stations in residential parking

France is set to significantly increase financial support for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in residential buildings, in a move aimed at accelerating the transition to cleaner mobility.

Starting April 1, the maximum subsidy available under the Advenir program will rise by 56%, with the ceiling increasing from €8,000 to €12,500 per building for parking facilities with up to 100 spaces. Additional funding per extra parking space will also be raised, making large-scale installations more financially accessible.

The initiative targets co-owned residential buildings, where installing charging infrastructure has often been complex and costly. The funding covers essential electrical work such as cabling, power cabinets, and grid connections. Individual parking space owners can also receive increased support—up to €1,000—to install their own charging points.

Outdoor parking areas will benefit from additional subsidies to offset higher installation costs, reflecting the technical challenges associated with equipping open-air facilities.

The expansion of financial incentives comes as Enedis reported that France had approximately 185,000 public charging points by the end of 2025, alongside more than one million installed in private or corporate settings. Authorities aim to further expand this network in the coming years to meet rising demand.

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in France, with recent sales growth reflecting a broader shift toward sustainable transport. Home charging remains one of the most cost-effective solutions, especially compared to more expensive fast-charging options on highways.

Officials say the enhanced subsidies will play a key role in making electric mobility more accessible, particularly for urban residents without private garages, and in supporting national climate and energy goals.
