Former German finance minister Joerg Kukies joins Morgan Stanley
Joerg Kukies, the former German finance minister, will be joining Morgan Stanley, the U.S. bank announced on Wednesday. This move marks his return to senior banking roles following several years in government service.
Kukies, a well-known figure in German finance, will initially work in London starting in May before relocating to Frankfurt as the country head for Germany and Austria. He will also lead Morgan Stanley’s continental European operations.
Prior to his political career, Kukies was co-head at Goldman Sachs in Germany. He later served as deputy finance minister under Chancellor Olaf Scholz and briefly led the finance ministry. Analysts note that U.S. banks like Morgan Stanley have expanded their presence in Germany in recent years, gaining market share from local institutions.
