Drone attack sparks fire at French military base in Abu Dhabi
A fire broke out at a naval base hosting French forces in Abu Dhabi following a drone attack attributed to Iran, according to the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense. The incident occurred amid a second consecutive day of Iranian strikes across the Gulf region.
Emirati authorities stated that two drones targeted a warehouse facility at Al Salam naval base, also known as Camp de la Paix. The strike ignited a fire affecting two storage containers containing various equipment. Specialized emergency teams were deployed to the site and successfully extinguished the flames. Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported.
The base hosts French military personnel stationed in the UAE under a bilateral defense agreement. French authorities have not issued an official comment regarding the reported strike.
The drone attack comes as part of a broader escalation following US and Israeli operations against Iran. In response, Tehran has launched waves of missiles and drones targeting locations in several Gulf countries, raising concerns over the safety of military installations and critical infrastructure in the region.
Security analysts note that the targeting of facilities hosting foreign forces represents a significant development in the ongoing confrontation, potentially widening the scope of the conflict and increasing diplomatic tensions between regional and international actors.
