Declining Confidence in American Leadership among Moroccans, Highlights Gallup Report
In a recent Gallup survey titled "Rating World Leaders," a global preference for American and German leadership over their Chinese and Russian counterparts has emerged across several nations. The report indicates that global support for Washington's stewardship reached 41 percent across 133 surveyed countries last year, but there's a concerning trend for American leadership in Morocco.
According to the findings, support for American leadership in the North African nation stood at a mere 30 percent in the previous year, marking a notable seven-percentage-point decrease from the preceding report. Alarmingly, a staggering 47 percent of Moroccans either declined or exhibited reluctance in answering questions related to Washington's leadership, while 27 percent expressed outright dissatisfaction.
President Biden's administration garnered the highest levels of support across several African nations, including Guinea, Togo, Ivory Coast, the Congo, and Mauritania. Conversely, Libya emerged as the nation with the lowest approval rating for American stewardship, at a mere 23 percent.
The report notes that global support for American leadership remained stable during Biden's third year in office, while Germany has consistently led global powers with a 46 percent approval rate, surpassing the United States. Approval rates for Western leadership in African countries averaged at 56 percent for the USA and 54 percent for Germany, compared to 58 percent for China and 42 percent for Russian stewardship.
In Asia, Germany led with a 41 percent approval rate, followed by the USA at 37 percent, then China and Russia at 33 percent and 29 percent, respectively. At the continental level, Washington led in the Americas with 39 percent, trailed by Germany, China, and Russia. In Europe, Berlin emerged as the frontrunner with a 60 percent approval rate.
Notably, Gallup also highlighted a slight decline in approval for American leadership in nine countries, including Washington's regional partners, and a more significant decline in over 13 nations.
As the world grapples with shifting geopolitical dynamics and evolving spheres of influence, the Gallup report underscores the imperative for American policymakers to address the eroding confidence in their nation's stewardship, particularly in strategic regions like Morocco, where public sentiment appears to be wavering.
