Deadly attack in northern Israel leaves one dead and one injured
A gunman opened fire on Monday morning at an intersection in northern Israel, killing one person and injuring another, according to emergency services. The attacker was "neutralized" by security forces, Israeli police confirmed.
This marks the first attack in Israel since the Israeli military resumed airstrikes on Gaza on March 18, breaking a previous truce with Hamas.
According to a police spokesperson, the assailant targeted civilians at the Tishbi Junction, near Yoqneam, about 15 kilometers southeast of Haifa, before being immediately neutralized by officers present at the scene.
Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, reported that a 70-year-old man was killed in the attack, while a 20-year-old man sustained severe injuries.
An emergency responder described finding both victims near a bus stop with serious wounds. The older victim was pronounced dead on-site, while the younger man, though conscious, was transported to a hospital in critical and unstable condition.
