Cycling Tour of Morocco: French Rider Zuccarelli Triumphs, Moroccan Merouani Finishes Fourth
The French cyclist Axel Narbonne Zuccarelli emerged victorious in the 33rd edition of the Tour of Morocco on Sunday. The 10th and final stage of the race was contested between Rabat and Casablanca, covering a distance of 124 kilometers.
Salaheddine Merouani, a Moroccan rider from Team A, secured an impressive fourth place in the individual general classification. His compatriot, Oussama Khafi, claimed the polka dot jersey as the best climber of the tour.
Zuccarelli dominated the general classification with a total time of 31 hours, 22 minutes, and 26 seconds, leading the Frenchman Jonathan Couanon by 2 minutes and 39 seconds, and the Eritrean Natnael Berhane by 2 minutes and 41 seconds. The Moroccan rider Merouani climbed to an honorable fourth position, trailing the leader by 3 minutes and 1 second, while his fellow countryman, Achraf Doghmi, finished seventh, 3 minutes and 25 seconds behind the winner.
The Tour of Morocco showcased the exceptional talents of both international and local cyclists, with the Moroccan contingent demonstrating their prowess on the challenging terrain. Khafi's achievement in securing the best climber's jersey further underscored the strength and resilience of the Moroccan riders.
As the peloton crossed the finish line in Casablanca, the victory of Zuccarelli and the outstanding performances of the Moroccan cyclists were celebrated, highlighting the nation's growing presence on the international cycling stage. The Tour of Morocco not only tested the physical endurance and strategic acumen of the participants but also provided a platform for fostering camaraderie and friendly competition among cyclists from diverse backgrounds.
