Construction crane collapse kills two in Thailand
A construction accident in central Thailand has left two people dead and five others injured after parts of a crane fell onto a busy roadway in Samut Sakhon province, striking vehicles passing below, authorities said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Rama II Road, a major transport route connecting Bangkok to southern regions of the country. The crane components were reportedly part of an expressway bridge construction project underway above the road.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, where the victims were found in vehicles hit by the falling structure. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while police secured the area and temporarily closed several lanes to prevent further risks.
The accident comes just one day after another crane-related disaster in northeastern Thailand, raising renewed concerns about construction safety standards and oversight at large infrastructure sites. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and assess compliance with safety regulations.
