Citigroup to announce new profit targets at investor day, CEO says
Citigroup is expected to present updated medium-term profit targets during its upcoming investor day on Thursday, according to CEO Jane Fraser. The announcement will highlight the bank’s ongoing transformation, aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing revenues.
Strategic restructuring and performance goals
Over recent years, Citigroup has undergone a major restructuring process, reducing its global footprint and simplifying its organizational structure. The bank has also eliminated layers of management to improve operational efficiency.
Fraser indicated that the new strategy will set higher performance expectations than the current 2026 objectives, which target a return on tangible common equity of between 10% and 11%. However, she did not disclose specific figures for the new guidance.
Focus on growth and artificial intelligence
A key part of Citigroup’s future strategy involves the use of artificial intelligence to enhance profitability, particularly within its wealth management division. The bank believes AI can help improve client services and increase returns.
Fraser also confirmed that Citigroup is not planning any major mergers or acquisitions as part of its growth strategy, instead focusing on internal development and operational improvement.
Outlook for investors
The CEO stated that investors will be presented with a clear growth path across the bank’s five main business divisions. Analysts are anticipating that the bank could aim for returns on equity of up to 15% in the medium term, reflecting stronger profitability expectations.
Fraser, who became CEO in 2021, has already led efforts to exit unprofitable retail operations and strengthen regulatory compliance after previous penalties faced by the bank.
