Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport Unveils State-of-the-Art Transit Zone

Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport Unveils State-of-the-Art Transit Zone

Casablanca, Morocco – In a bid to redefine the passenger experience and bolster security measures, the National Airports Office (ONDA) has inaugurated a cutting-edge transit zone at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport. This significant development is set to cater to the increasing number of international travelers and reinforce the airport's strategic role as a pivotal aviation hub.

Spanning a vast 5,000 square meters, the newly opened transit zone is meticulously designed to enhance operational efficiency and provide a seamless travel experience for passengers in transit. The facility boasts an array of advanced technological features aimed at streamlining processes, reducing wait times, and ensuring the utmost security.

Enhancing Passenger Experience and Security

Equipped with 11 new check-in counters specifically for transit passengers, the zone is a testament to ONDA’s commitment to improving traveler comfort. The security infrastructure includes 10 Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) for carry-on baggage with automated lines, 7 metal detector gates, handheld metal detectors, and 3 body scanners, all designed to detect both liquid and solid explosives.

Passenger mobility within the zone is also a priority, facilitated by 7 elevators and 8 escalators, ensuring smooth and efficient movement.

Meeting Growing Demand

The inauguration ceremony was marked by a press statement from Abdelhak Mazour, Director of Mohammed V Airport. “Today, we are opening a new international transit zone for passengers. This new 5,000 square meter zone enhances passenger flow and the performance of the civil aviation control and security system,” Mazour asserted.

Highlighting the airport's role in international air travel, Mazour added, “The airport welcomes a significant number of transit passengers, transported from south to north and east to west. Faced with this increase in traffic, it was essential for us, in collaboration with Royal Air Maroc (RAM), to provide a sufficiently large zone capable of handling up to two million passengers per year, which is significant.”

A Strategic Move for Future Preparedness

Mazour emphasized the importance of the high-performance security equipment installed in the zone, stating, “This equipment is available to our security partners so that they can work under optimal conditions.” The advanced security measures are designed to ensure the most comfortable transit conditions possible, aligning with international standards.

The opening of this new transit zone is not just a response to current traffic but also a forward-looking move as Morocco prepares to host major sporting events. By continuously expanding and adapting to the evolving needs of passengers, Mohammed V International Airport reinforces its stature as a key player in global aviation.

As the airport continues to grow, this new transit zone stands as a beacon of progress, promising a safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable experience for all international travelers.
