Casablanca's Children's Book Fair Draws Record 101,000 Visitors, Showcasing Literary Innovation and Cultural Exchange
The second International Children and Youth Book Fair in Casablanca has concluded with remarkable success, transforming Anfa Park into a vibrant hub of literary and artistic expression from December 14 to 22. The event brought together 340 exhibitors from 29 countries, presenting an impressive collection of 40,000 titles and over 150,000 copies.
Under the organization of the Ministry of Culture, Communication, and Youth, the fair featured Wallonia-Brussels as its guest of honor, adding an international dimension to the cultural showcase. The event transcended traditional book fair boundaries by offering comprehensive programs aimed at nurturing Morocco's next generation of creative talent.
A cornerstone of the fair's success was its focus on professional development, with 70 specialized workshops and training sessions designed for emerging authors, illustrators, and designers. These sessions provided valuable insights into career pathways in writing, visual storytwriting, and artistic production, contributing to the growth of Morocco's literary landscape.
The fair's educational impact extended to school libraries, where targeted training programs enhanced management practices to better promote reading habits among students. The "Words of Arts" program, spread across seven dedicated spaces, delivered more than 405 activities encompassing creative writing, theater, photography, ceramics, design, and live arts.
A highlight of the event was an exhibition celebrating Belgian artist Peyo, creator of The Smurfs, which attracted over 20,000 young visitors. Publishing houses and cultural organizations enriched the fair's program with more than 300 activities, including book signings, educational sessions, and artistic workshops, facilitating meaningful interactions between creators and audiences.
The fair's significance was amplified by extensive media coverage from 65 outlets and strong social media engagement. The Ministry emphasized the event's role in promoting reading culture and supporting human development through knowledge accessibility. The enthusiastic participation of young attendees from Casablanca and surrounding areas underscored the vital importance of such initiatives in connecting communities with literature and the arts.
As the fair concluded, it left an indelible mark on Morocco's cultural landscape, successfully achieving its mission to inspire and nurture a new generation of creators and readers while establishing itself as a significant cultural milestone in Casablanca's calendar.
