Canada’s prime minister highlights aviation security cooperation with Morocco
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday underscored the importance of cooperation between Canada and Morocco in strengthening international civil aviation security and preventing air accidents.
In a message marking Canada’s National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Air Disasters, Carney recalled the fourth edition of the Safer Skies Forum, held in Marrakech in April 2025. The global event, co-organized with Canada, brought together international stakeholders to address aviation safety challenges, particularly in or near conflict zones.
According to Carney, the forum provided a valuable opportunity to reinforce safety measures for civil aviation operating over sensitive regions and to enhance international coordination. He also noted the broad support expressed during the meeting for the renewed Declaration of Commitment on Aviation Security.
The declaration aims to improve cooperation between civil and military authorities, strengthen airspace conflict management, enhance information-sharing practices, and ensure effective responses in times of crisis.
Morocco’s efforts in aviation safety have gained international recognition. In September, the Kingdom was elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during the organization’s 42nd Assembly in Montreal. Morocco’s progress in establishing an effective safety oversight system and improving compliance with ICAO standards was also formally acknowledged.
Looking ahead, Morocco is set to host the fifth edition of ICAO’s Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in April under the theme “Regional Solutions, Global Benefits.” The event is expected to bring together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and international experts to discuss priorities and opportunities related to the implementation of ICAO standards worldwide.
