Bullying acts undermine global order, says Chinese president
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday criticized what he described as “unilateral and bullying acts”, warning that such behavior is seriously undermining the international order. He called on major powers to respect international law and uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Xi made the remarks during talks with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Beijing, according to China’s state media. He stressed that all countries should respect the development paths chosen by other nations and that leading powers bear a special responsibility to set an example.
“In a world marked by uncertainty and turbulence, unilateral actions and coercive practices are weakening the foundations of the international system,” Xi said.
His comments come amid heightened global tensions following a recent US operation in Venezuela, which led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The operation has sparked debate over its legality and implications for international norms.
Beijing has repeatedly emphasized the importance of multilateralism and dialogue, positioning itself as a defender of sovereignty and international rules in a rapidly changing global landscape.
